Drew Champlin is the owner of and head instructor at Champlin Jiu-Jitsu Academy. Drew began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu while in college where he studied exercise science.
What started as a hobby to do on the days where he wasn’t participating in traditional strength training quickly became an obsession for him. During these early years he spent most of his free time on the mat, and began competing frequently.
His teaching career began in 2016 as a purple belt; teaching both kids and adult classes part time in the evenings. Several of his first students during these years now train with him at Champlin Jiu-Jitsu Academy a decade later.
He received his black belt in 2020 from Professor Alan Stockman of Stockman Jiu-Jitsu / Carlson Gracie Team. He opened Champlin Jiu-Jitsu Academy a little over a year later in January 2022, expanding it into a larger facility in October 2025.
In addition to his teaching experience he holds a competiton resume that includes numerous gold medals in IBJJF competition as well as a 2nd place finish at the World Masters tournament at the black level.
He lives in Northeast Indianapolis (right around the corner from the gym) with his Wife, Daughter, and Dogs.
